In case you missed it, last night President Obama addressed Congress. Here is a list of things I learned.
1. Obama does not know who invented the automobile. He wants the country that invented the automobile to be the leader in the industry. That would be Germany, the automobile was invented by Karl Benz ( Source Library of Congress ).
2. Energy costs are going to go up in the future. Obama wants to use more wind, solar, and other "green" energy. To me that sounds expensive. If the government pays for it, they will want to control it, and we all know how well they are at managing things.
3. Obama sure likes to bring up how he inherited a huge deficit. In my opinion, he did not inherit anything, that debt is property of the American people.
4. Education starts at home. So says Obama, anyway. What the hell are teachers being paid to do? When I was in school, we learned in school, did most of our work in school and feared the teachers. The only thing we feared more than the teachers was asking our parents for help.
5. Obama is not an economist. He is living in some fantasy land where he thinks that getting the bank to loan some money will solve everyones problem. So, someone explain to me how in the world you are first, going to get a loan, and second pay it back, if you do not have a job. What we are in now is sorta like flying a plane and it goes into a flat spin. The natural reaction is to pull back on the stick, but in reality that is the worst thing you can do. You have to fight human nature and let the stick go and let the spin correct itself. That is what we need to do, let this downward spiral hit bottom and work our way back to the top.
My final thought for the day is this. The government really does not want to help you when you need it. They want to wait until you are totally down and out on the streets. For example, let's say that you lose your job, can't find a new job, and bills are starting to stack up on you. You have some money in 401K. Can you get it to pay your bills? Sure, after you pay a penalty and a huge tax rate on it. Can you get some government assistance? NO, you have a huge 401k. In other words, they only want to help if you are totally down and they can keep you there where they want you.
